During the pandemic, I realised how much I missed singing with other people.
I thought "When the world reopens, maybe I'll join a choir." But then, I couldn't find one that felt right for me.
I didn't want to join just any old community choir. I wanted to feel challenged and grow as a singer, while making friends and having fun.
And I didn't want to sing pop songs or hymns - I wanted to sing show tunes.
Now, I might look like a screaming rock singer (and I am), but I absolutely love musical theatre.
And I've realised I'm not the only one - loads of alternative people love musicals.
It just wasn't "cool," so we held it in.
Well, we say musicals are cool. And the incredible community that's grown around City of Stars proves we're not alone.
Since 2021, we've grown to four choirs across Sussex, all led by professional musicians with amazing talent and experience.
We've put on sold-out shows, performed at one of the UK's biggest Pride events, and even featured in a Christmas advert on national TV for one of the country's best-known brands.
The community, the friendship, the performances have given me my voice back after losing it for so many years. Candi and the team are just incredible, I can’t imagine life without this amazing musical theatre loving bunch.
